WOW-GOLD-NEWS-Playing a Druid

Feral: Cat & Bear

Cat form allows you to emulate a Rogue. You have an Energy bar instead of mana and stealth. You have a lot of abilities that work very similarly to Rogue abilities and some unique skills like Feral Charge: Cat that allows you to leap at enemies. It’s a lot to take in and can be difficult to grasp.

Bear form, the first form you get, is very similar but you gain a Rage bar instead of Energy and emulate a Warrior. You’ll probably not use Bear form a lot until you’re max level; it’s more of a form you’ll use between Humanoid form and Cat form while you level. So we’ll approach it from that angle.

The first Bear ability you get is Maul, which is their de facto melee attack. You can spam that until you get Mangle and Lacerate. Once you’ve got both of those at level 70 you can put Maul in your back pocket. Mangle is available in Bear & Cat form and is a really strong attack. Lacerate applies a DoT on the enemy (stackable) and is really good for DPS and tanking.

At level 20 you’ll get cat form, which allows you to really pump out the damage and will be the staple for leveling up. With cat form, until level 50, you’re going to want to do the following: spam claw until you have 5 combo points then use Rip or if you’re level 32 Ferocious Bite. At level 50 you’re just going to want to spam Mangle (assuming you spec for it) until you have 5 combo points and use this simple logic to decide on your finisher. If the enemy is above 50% after 5 Mangles then you’ll want to rip. If they’re below 50% then go ahead and Ferocious Bite. If it’s not going to live through most of the Rip then don’t bother. Don’t bother with Rake while leveling up, unless it’s a beefy enemy, since Mangle will do more damage. Use Tiger’s Fury for energy regeneration (assuming you’ve spec’d for it) at later levels.

At level 80 things change up a good bit. For questing you’ll want to continue the same staple: 5 Mangles and a Ferocious Bite. For instances things get a bit more complicated. Druids don’t have a rotation like many other classes, instead they have a priority list. This means you’re going to want to focus on keeping certain abilities up on the enemy.

You’re going to want to keep Savage Roar up all the time as your 1st priority. You can argue using it at 2 combo points to get it going at the start of the match, doing it at 4 or 5 combo points. I say start a fight off with mangle, Savage Roar, start your abilities, and then follow-up with a 4-5 point Savage Roar depending on the time.

Next you’re going to want to keep Mangle up. So that’s why I say you should lead into battle with a Mangle then Savage Roar, assuming it critical striked. Next on the list is…

Rake. So if you’ve just started the fight you’ll have Mangle up and Savage Roar. Savage Roar buffs ALL damage you do, so you’ll want it up when you Rake. Rake provides combo points, so that’s good.

Now, with Mangle, Rake, and Savage Roar up you’re going to want to Shred for combo points. Shred requires you to be behind the enemy. If this is impossible (it shouldn’t be, but it can), use Mangle instead.

At 5 combo points AND if Savage Roar is up then use Rip. If Rip is up for more than 10 seconds, Savage Roar is up for more than 10 seconds, and you’ve got Energy to spare then use Ferocious Bite instead. Then repeat the cycle: keep Savage Roar up (#1), Mangle up (#2), Rake up (#3), and if all of that’s going and you have 5 combo points Rip.

If you drop below 30% Energy then use Tiger’s Fury. Use Beserk when you have a lot of energy.

It’s that simple!

Resto: Tree

Tree form, or any kind of healing, can be a simple or complicated mess. Basically the goal of healing is to keep people alive. There are a lot of ways to do this and each encounter changes how you want to keep alive, who you want to keep alive, and even raid compensation can make healing mean a lot of different things!

So, we’ll go over basic instance healing. Druids have a lot of healing spells available. At lower levels (i.e. before level 80) you don’t have to be spec’d resto to heal, but healing gear (even greens) helps a lot at higher levels. The main goal in a 5 man instance is to keep the entire party alive and this is done by keeping the tank alive. As long as the tank lives he can keep the enemies attacking him and absorb way more damage than other players can.

Healing Touch, Rejuvenation, and Regrowth are your main heals at the lower levels. You should keep Rejuvenation up on anyone taking damage and use Healing Touch to keep the tank alive. Regrowth can take Healing Touch’s place, assuming the damage is moderate enough.

Eventually you’ll get Lifebloom, which is extremely helpful in keeping the tank alive while you heal others. It returns a good bit of your mana back to you and you can stack it to three on a tank and throw up a Rejuvenation and the tank shouldn’t need much more healing. It has a “big heal” component when it’s done which returns the mana and does a big heal.

The last non-talented big heal you get is Nourish, which is similar to flash heal, and good for healing in a pinch. You also can get Wild Growth from talents which will make a 5-man very easy to heal (since it applies HoTs to 5 players). Swiftmend, glyphed, is very useful for an instant heal on the tank or anyone who is dropping fast.

Healing is very complicated and involves a lot triage work. You need to figure out who needs to be healed the most and who doesn't, who is going to die if they don't get a heal and who can hold off. It's something that's learned from a lot of playing and healing.

All in all, most of the Druid healing spells are instant which makes them excellent party healers and capable of keeping a large raid topped off without a problem.

Balance: Boomkin

Boomkins or OOMKINS (get it they're out of mana) are fun to play and especially to level up with, although they’re not as efficient as Feral Druids at leveling up. They’re kinda simple to play too. Spam Wrath until you get Lunar Eclipse (it’s a talent). Then you spam Wrath until Lunar Eclipse procs, then cast Starfire while Eclipse is up. During Solar Eclipse you’ll want to just continue to spam Wrath. Keep the Moonfire DoT up as much as possible. In solo PvE you should lead off with Moonfire and an Insect Swarm.

So, that’s it, spam Wrath. Oh, and you can spawn trees. Trees are useful for DPS. Keeping Insect Swarm (when you get it) and Moonfire is useful too.

Really, it’s that simple.
