Recently,The WoWInsider took a special visit to the senior designer and the chief Majordomo of the wow,Tom "Kalgan" Chilton,and asked something about the argent tournament,the PTR3.2 and the further direction of exploit of WoW
This wasnt the first we tolking with tom,but it couldn't be a better time for us to talk about some plans of new patches at the very begining of a new generation called3.1.

WoW Insider:The Blz treat the contents of every largepatches like a micro expansion and can I know the reason?
Tom Chilton:Mostly because we're always gave ourselves pressure to make everything perfect in each patches.We never got satisfiction from what we have done,but paid more attentions to what we hadn't.Maybe some overcorrected,but it's profitable for players.To make sure the patch contains contents for all kinds of players.
What we failed to do was to provide details for all stages and we just gave some particular parts for particular groups at some particular time,just like 25 members,10 members' raid and old battle grounds.But that cannot give attentions to all the players.We were kept trying on that,with a steady velocity of expansion publishing.
Why you decide to perfect the argent tournament?
The argent tournament are just like a event of classsical style.We've got several event just like festival activities,and we'll continue in improving that and add more contents in the future.But we also want to do some more "old-fashioned" things.So we created argent tournament,we hope that can be accomplished by single players and more gentle,but not an other distributing center of routine quests.we were aimed at ensure the activity special and novel,just as we expected
Will the argent tournament plays an important part in the WotLK or an episode in the ice crown?
The argent tournament will be developed in 3.2,but it depends.

How could you find a balance between the changing of habit through the ages(like the 30Min CD of hearthstone and Dual-Talent) and the impart of what palyers want.
We kept these things for a long time.I thought we are not so kernel any moer,or we've got the true meaning of ''kernel".There're many things to exhume in world travelling and talent.Our former logic of developing maybe not so frendly with players.
We decided to get closer to players than any other games,but the limit was much too harsh some times.The change of hearthstone are because of the long times bug of that,so we fixed and as the side effect of the new battle ground process,The position teleported choosed after you left the party in dungeon was more intelligentize.We fix that bug mainly based on moral sense but we also think that players did too much things like transmitting to the city everywhere.
Anything about 3.2?
What I can tell you is a new battle ground and noew details about argent crusade!Mostly on addition of argent tournament and perfect of the story line of frost base and fighting arthas.
Why did the swimming of mount kept for so long,it's related to other parts or a small fix.
Yes,it's an other thing that based on conceptsbut we got some spare time for mount action to make them seems really swimming.It's really a bothering of dismount when stepping into a puddle.That's one of a small detail that made the game more comfortable,but we got not time for that.

Did you plan to make some more dance actions and new druid forms you committed before.
Of course, our animation designers are dealing with that.
Did you surprised about the success of WotLK and new contents like DK and wintergrasp?
The former,we does,but the latter on on the contrary.We felt well on the expansion at the begining,The contents of sucha a big patch was sufficient,and we are expecting for its success
Otherwise,the feedback made us ashamed.We do feel happy on introduction and progress of new class,both players and us are worried about the potential trouble of a new class's addition,and that's we're always cared.
My feeling of winter grasp was intricated,It's partly perfect,with the sence of PVP,On the other hand,design of unknown participation level was really a problem.
At the rush hour of some hot server,the wintergrasp could be in a mess.That's what we cannot accept.
Did you plan to add more heroic classes based on death knight
Maybe in the future,of course we know how sucessful DK is,There're still some classes that can solve the problem of assimilation.We always cautious with this kind of problems.We need a caution and intelligence when dealing these problems.
Why added the dual-talent system?Did that effect fickle of players.
We never say the world "never",I've never even thought about things like dual-talents.We hope talent means vital choice but not so flexible.Meanwhile,as the game evolving,players ned to attend into different parts of the game.but the parts are totally different from each other,and actions are necesary for those parts.
The tri-talents?better not!When speaking at designer's point of view,the choice of talent was still an important part of the game.and that makes the UI more fussy and the game more complicateThe customize of character will no longer existed with all the things given,and that's what we always want to be kept

Did any characteristicsof other MMOs you like and want to put in to Wow?
Definitely yes!The house system for example.In fact we were discuss that and we've talked about how and when to achieve that for at least 5 years.
So is that you're working on?
No,we're not doing that,that's too complex,and we're not sure whether it benifit for Wow through long term considering.That means significant for the core of game.We'll never say"never",you know,but it really not one of our current aiming
